Jem trained as a designer at Curtin University in Australia before moving to the UK. He first worked for traditional building designer, Charles Morris, before joining Heatherwick Studio in 2004. He was a key designer on a number of their projects, including La Maison Unique in New York and the British Pavilion for the Shanghai World Expo. In 2008 he concentrated on his passion for landscape - designing and building a number of private gardens in Europe and Australia. Jem then worked for Tom Stuart-Smith Ltd for eight years, during which he spent several years as an Associate managing projects the UK, France, Switzerland, Spain and USA.
In November 2017 he returned to Australia to set up his own practice - www.jemhanbury.com, and continues to work on a freelance basis for Tom Stuart-Smith Ltd.
