Pembroke College

Cambridge

The landscape proposals form part of an expansion of Pembroke College being led by Architects Haworth Tompkins, with whom we collaborated in a limited competition. The proposals include a new residential court and restoration of several historic significant buildings by the architects Haworth Tompkins. The buildings will be linked by open spaces that continue and extend the language of Pembroke’s distinctive courts and gardens. The new and existing buildings will provide graduate accommodation, teaching spaces, and publicly accessible facilities, including a gallery and a performance venue.

The existing Porters’ Lodge will be linked to a series of courtyards. The first, called Kenmare Gardens, will serve as a flexible space for gatherings, cafés, and spill out from the theatre inside the Church. This leads to a larger greener space, Dolby Court, which follows the tradition of New Court and the Bowling Green of the old college with a central lawn with tree embowered places to sit at its periphery.
