Studio Manager
We are currently seeking a Studio Manager with strong office management experience to join our team of 25 designers and support staff. The ideal candidate will bring exceptional organisational skills, experience nurturing employee wellbeing and engagement, and the ability to oversee the day-to-day running of a busy and creative working studio.
About Us
Tom Stuart-Smith Studio is a leading landscape design practice with an international reach. Based in the countryside outside St Albans, we work throughout the northern hemisphere and have completed major commissions for the Royal Household, the Royal Horticultural Society, Tate Britain and The Royal Academy of Arts. Our purpose-built studio overlooks its own garden and offers a collaborative, creative environment with a strong studio culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage insurance policies, health & safety, fire safety and first aid compliance
- Oversee the practice principal’s diary and assist with personal administration
- Organise travel arrangements (flights, trains, hotels, visas, itineraries)
- Manage general studio enquiries and liaise with directors on new work
- Support HR and recruitment processes, manage company policies and ensure compliance
- Coordinate studio events and collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Manager
- Manage the studio’s social media presence and assist in delivering the new website (currently in progress)

Essential Skills and Attributes
- A good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable managing a busy and dynamic studio; experience within a design practice is preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite (Photoshop and InDesign) and social media platforms
- Skilled at coordinating and managing complex travel arrangements
- HR experience is advantageous – the role includes providing pastoral support and maintaining a positive, motivated studio culture

Location: Bedmond, Hertfordshire
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week (paid overtime available)
